Redken's "Cut-a-Thon to Benefit City of Hope Brings Beauty to the Big Apple

Q: Why are these people waiting in line on a hot, Friday in June?
A: They're waiting to get a chance for a haircut and blow-dry from a top Redken stylist for a minimum donation of just $30.00!

If you regularly check out the AdviceSisters Beauty/Style/Fashion Forums in the last couple of weeks, you had a heads' up that fabulous REDKEN was going to be holding its annual Cut-A-Thon on June 6, 2008 from 8:00-4:00pm on a first-come, first-served basis, at the chic, Redken Exchange (5th Ave between 46th and 47th streets in Manhattan ).

For a minimum donation of $30, men and women not only got a chance to check out the chic, Redken exchange and get great new look, they got a gift bag of essential Redken products, customized for their hair type.

But the main attraction wasn't just getting great hair, it was also an opportunity to join Redken and do good for others, while looking great. This year, all funds raised form the event will be donated to City of Hope. City of Hope is a biomedical research and treatment center dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

At 4:00 p.m., when I arrived at the end of the vent, there was still an air of excitement (and a long line) outside the Redken Exchange, with women and men eager to look great for a Friday night out. Inside, bone-tired stylists who had worked hard from sunup to literally, sundown, danced in the aisles and sang along with the music to keep their energy up.

These assistants are laughing and smiling --how could you not, when they're playing "Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)" by Parliament? A young girl who arrived just as I did was also dancing in the aisle as her mom got "beautified." High energy, great hair, dedicated stylists, happy patrons leaving with goodies....this was such a great event!

I have seen Redken stylist Ellen Lawlor backstage at Fashion Week, doing the hair of top models, but I was honored and thrilled for her to also do my hair. Yes, I looked great, but this photo isn't me, it's the woman who got the chance to get a bit of magic from Ellen after me. It was getting late and I had to leave so I didn't see the final result on this woman, but I'm sure it was fantastic!

When I last checked, this event had raised over $15,000...I'll get the actual statistics from Redken hopefully, today, and share them with you.
