Green is one of those colors that people tend to love, or loathe, but it’s always been one of my favorites. With apologies to Kermit the frog, it can really be a lot of fun being green. Green is not just associated with frogs, but with many beautiful things. It’s the color of life. It is the color of the first blades of grass, and the tops of the crocuses peeking out of the snow. Green is the color of money. And, as a readhead, green is very flattering to my skin tone.
The Pantone color of the year been tangerine in 2012, honeysuckle in 2011, turquoise in 2010, mimosa in 2009, blue iris in 2008, and chili pepper in 2007. But for 2013, Emerald is the name of a precious gemstone, and the color. Emerald is rich, invigorating, beautiful and flattering.
Here are just a few reasons more reasons we love green, and especially emerald green.
It’s the color of one of the most precious and beautiful gems on earth
It is the nickname of Ireland “the emerald isle”
The magical, mythical, Emerald City was the goal of Dorothy and her pals in the Wizard of Oz
And who doesn’t love March, because it is in this month Saint Patrick’s Day (the wearing of the green), falls!
It is so exciting to see a bit of “green” peeking out from under Winter’s white snow and know that Spring is coming!
You can’t help but notice that emerald gowns ruled on the red carpet for the Golden Globes
These Christian Louboutin Volipi pumps might cost nearly as much as a small emerald!
It is easy to add some green to your beauty routine. Here are two items we think you’ll love that will inspire you to “go green” with beauty this Spring.
Mineral Fusion Nail Care Collection. Try a shimmery green polish called “Mossy Bank” by Mineral Fusion ($7.99). This long-lasting, chip-free formula is infused with anti-oxidant-rich minerals. If you don’t care for green, there are 30 shades ranging from deep reds and vibrant pinks to soft neutrals and muted blue-tones. I love the unusual, slim, flattened oval bottle, and the extra-thick brush that lets the polish flow on, flawlessly. The company’s motto is: Minerals on a Mission. The formulas are formaledhyde, toluene, camphor and dibutyl phthlate-free, and 100% vegan. Now that’s really “green!” You’ll want to get these great and long lasting polishes in every shade! http://www.mineralfusion.com/

Nars Spring 2013 collection features a beautiful duo called Mad Mad World. For example, the Duo Eyeshadow ($34.00) of Cyan and parakeet green called: “Mad Mad World” initially looks really bright, but it is layer-able, blend-able, and beautiful, no matter how you wear it. I liked it bold and layered or color-blocked. But the colors can also be “tamed” to a wash that looks magical but not harsh. Although green isn’t always the most flattering color with blue eyes, I used the deep blue at the lid lines, then lightly applied the green shadow from there to the crease, adding just a hint of highlight at the brow bone. The look is not startling, but it is startlingly pretty. That’s the beauty of NARS. Wear it as you wish. You can’t miss!
