Yesterday was one of those “blues champion” days at Lincoln Center. Half a dozen bad breaks kept me from getting cross-town to cover Aveda’s backstage and I missed seeing General Idea’s Fall 2013 runway show at Eyebeam. But the Advice Sisters got the scoop on what went on:
Creative Director Bumsuk Choi was inspired by “(The Path to Buddha ) A Tibetan Pilgrimage” by Steve McCurry. This photographic book of intimate portraits of Tibetans on their own personal journeys inspired the overarching nomadic theme of the collection. Functional, utilitarian detailing combined with a certain sleekness and interesting layering to create innovative silhouettes in darker shades of green, navy, and orange. The general opinion of General idea was that standouts in the collection inclueded the outerwear: varsity jackets and quilted toggle coats in beloved and traditional glen plaid.
Among the “celebrities” were Rapper Vinny Cha$e; Actor Eric West; Ice Skater Johnny Weir and Filmmaker Andrew Jenks
Backstage Beauty: The make-up was by Make-Up by Fawn Monique for Aveda with Hair by Matthew Curtis for Tresemme
TO OUR READERS: Fashion Week is a hectic time, and shows are scattered through the City. It is impossible to be everywhere at once when you’re not a huge online portal with lots of staff or unpaid (but somehow willing) interns. Advicesisters.net has a policy of only posting high quality original editorial content, but the times are changing and we don’t want you to miss some beauty, fashion or lifestyle information that we think might be of interest to you. For the first time ever, in light of transportation, seating, and weather issues this Fashion Week and awards season, The Advice Sisters have decided to offer you a selection of (quasi) non-original coverage of Fashion Week, the Oscars and the Grammy Awards that we think will interest you.
