Christian Siriano Fall Fashion Week 2009 Runway

2009 marked Christian Siriano’s second season showing in the tents.  I was prepared to see flamboyant, risky clothes, but somehow, Siriano is already past that, and simply produced breath-taking, elegant, sophisticated clothes for day and evening that still had energy and modern, fun details. Unless you have been living on another planet for the last few years, you probably have heard of the smash hit TV show “Project Runway.”  Each season, a new, eager, and supremely talented young designer, wins a chance to show the rest of the world what s/he can do.  The very young Christian Siriano was the winner of Season Four.  I keep hearing words like “flamboyant” and “fierce,” but he’s just young and unafraid, not to mention very creative and smart.   Naturally, this show drew celebrities, editors, buyers and plenty of Siriano’s fans.

I loved these short coats. They look modern and fun, and they’d make even last year’s outfits, look new.  The shoes with signature, curved heels and tons of chains are  part of Siriano’s collaboration with PayLess. You can get these funky,  inexpensive shoes called “Sand Strap” at Payless in September, 2009, and have a true, designer original right off the runway! There are also two short boots with sky high heels and hidden platforms, ironically called “Slither” and “Saunter” and two elaborate, sky high pumps called “Strut” (with Siriano’s conical heel done in metallic gold) and “She Devil” featuring a teal, hieroglyphic fabric and three, pyramid-shaped studs on the heel counter.

The shiny gold pantsuit channels Elvis, but the loose pants  with ruched sweater and the slouchy hood, look comfotable and chic. Two views of evening.  Siriano’s draping is evident in both.
This taupe ballgown reminds me of a sand castle. It would surely turn heads on the red carpet.
Two views of the finale, bringing the long and short of the collection together.
The goddess gown, fit for Cleopatra herself, and the dramatic headpiece with hood,  received gasps from the audience!  Without the hood and headpiece, however, you’ve got a stunning evening gown!

Lynn Yaeger brought herself, and Tory Spelling (flanked by protective security guards who almost knocked me to the ground when the crowd behind me surged forward, pushing me towards the front row)  provided the jewelry, while Siriano’s own celebrity brought out editors and fans.
