Buying beauty-related products is a personal decision. The products reviewed in the Advice Sisters "What Works" Beauty, Cosmetics & Fashion review column and on the Advice Sisters Blog should work well for the majority of people but not every product will perform equally well for everyone. Be a wise consumer. Use common sense. Apply products only as directed. Practice basic safety precautions. ** Some of the brands we review in the "What Works" column are being sold outside of company-sanctioned outlets. These products may be expired, or they may not even be the real thing. Wherever possible the Advice Sisters direct you to the company's own web site or authorized sales outlets, so you are assured of the genuine products. Advice Sister Alison."
The Advice Sisters online publications offer impartial, personal product reviews, by expert beauty & fashion reviewer, Alison Blackman Dunham. If other opinions are included in a review, "we" (instead of "I") is used. My Review Philosophy: This beauty, fashion and cosmetics review column is called "What Works" (not what doesn't). I want to direct you to what I think are great products, not denigrate those I didn't like (but you might love). All beauty reviews are subjective. It's my responsibility to describe products in a way that offers information, but allows you to use your own, good judgment about whether to buy it or not. I have tested thousands of products, which gives me a strong background on which to base my comments, but the decision to try something is yours, alone. A Signature Approach: Many online publications and blogs find it easier and economical to just post photos and press releases of products "as if" they have actually used them. I will never write about products or events unless I have experienced it. I believe "faux" reviews simply add to the junk and clutter on the Internet, without offering anything substantive or new. I also do not accept advertorial content (promotional content for money). This is only part of what distinguishes The Advice Sisters from others. I know you appreciate the difference. A Note About Compensation: In order to write real reviews, I use samples provided by a company or a public relations firm. There is no way I could write valid, responsible, personal reviews without them. Sample products and services are not "compensation" for the effort it takes to do this work, nor do gratis samples influence my opinion of products in Advice Sisters content.
