Versace Yellow Diamond is a Perfume Gem

Yellow diamonds have a special allure.  Just ask Jennifer Lopez. Her husband, Marc Anthony, presented her with an eight carat canary diamond ring after the birth of their twins.  And she’s not the only celebrity who loves yellow.  Paris Hilton had a big canary diamond engagment ring and Kid Rock gave Pamela Anderson a canary ring with heart-shaped side stones totaling 18 carats that had an estimated value of $750,000.  While those relationships weren’t as sunny as the diamonds, Jennifer Anniston has a 9.5 carat canary diamond ring reportedly worth $500,000,  and Heidi Klum wears a 10 carat, fancy yellow diamond set in a canary pavé band from husband, Seal.

You might not have the cool, $300,000 and that Anthony spent on J-Lo’s diamond, let alone Kid Rock’s “rock” for Pamela, but you can can enjoy the pretty, Yellow Diamond fragrance by Versace. Let’s face it, Versace is synonomous with glamour, and Donatella Versace apparently named Yellow Diamond because that’s her favorite signature adornment.  She apparently was inpsired by elegance and a more elegant era, when thinking about the creation of Versace Yellow Diamond.

What does the smell of high fashion, money, and glamour smell like?  It is just what you’d expect: sexy, yet feminine.

Before you get to the striking bottle and the fragrance within, savor the beauty of the outer carton, done up in glossy, lemon yellow with a vintage-y Baroque-ish, Versace design of flourishes and scrolls, executed in gold metallic. And the there’s the revealing of the little perfume gem for collectors: a clear, elegant, chunk of glass for the bottle (the same as with other Versace fragrances), with a striking, clear yellow, oval, faceted topper faceted as though you might want to wear it. If this were a real diamond, it would be about six carats (so do the math)!

But it is what is inside the bottle that most people will purchase Yellow Diamond for.  The fragrance isn’t quite as spectacular as the presentation and packaging, but it is a pleasing, fruity floral fragrance that’s has some durability on your skin.  It is significant enough for cool weather, but you’ll still want to wear it when the mercury, rises. The notes start with citron, pear sorbet, bergamot and neroli. These top notes are fruity for the most part, but they don’t knock you over with citrus, nor are they cheaply sweet. They’re surprisingly soft and nicely blended. The heart has orange blossom, freesia, mimosa and nymphea, all romantic floral notes (especially noticeable is the mimosa), but they’re also tempered by the drydown  –one of sensual, amber-y woods, palo santo wood, and refined musk.

My personal experience with Versace Yellow Diamond might now be the same with your body chemistry, but I found that after the fruits and flowers blew off, I was left with something softly reminiscent of green tea.  And that’s not a bad thing, either. So what appears to be one thing, might really be another. This fragrance will appeal to young women, but more mature women will like it too – it has enough sophistication to elicit , delight.

A 1 oz Eau de Toilette is $50.00; 1.7 oz is $67.00, 3 fl. oz. is $88.00, and the auxiliary Body Lotion or Bath & Shower Gel are each  $42.00.  Both the bath and shower gel add a nice amount of layer-ability to the fragrance, and I like using them separately, as well for when I just want to enjoy the fragrance, for a short while.  The prices are not inexpensive, but not stratospheric, either.   Yellow Diamond can be an every day scent, or special occasion “go-to.”  In fact, this would make a nice Valentine’s Day gift.

You can find Yellow Diamond at Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Dillards, Lord & Taylor and Sephora stores, nationwide.
