“It’s all about the eyes,” makeup artist Chase Aston told editors several times as he worked, to bring home the point. Chase’s looks for The Body Shop focus on smoky eyes (and The Body Shop’s really easy to use, 4-Step Smoky Eye Kits ($28.00) in black and silver, or golden brown and gold). The compact has four shadows, one deep matte, two shimmer powder shadows, and a creamy gold or silver shadow (these glitter a bit under artificial light, but not so much you can’t wear them to work). You also get a mini shadow brush applicator and a mini eye liner pencil that fit nicely into the chic, square, black and gold mirrored compact. The outer box has step by step instructions that Chase included for the clueless or those who just want a quick and easy smoky eye from an expert. These kits are great for travel, tote or as a gift. Finish the look with a spritz of “sparkler” powder ($24.00) in Golden or Pink (they come in the cutest, retro atomizers), just at the temples or lightly wherever you want a bit of glittery shimmer. To get the holiday look, start with a matte face using The Body Shop’s Extra Virgin Minerals Foundation . This amazing, creamy foundation in a compact comes with its own brush, but Chase used a larger, bigger face brush to get a quick, flawless effect. There is no blush in this look, and barely-there lips, glammed only with some nude lipstick and a slick of gloss. The easy daytime look starts with the lightest shade in the quartet applied mostly as a base and highlight under the browbone. Chase “glamified” an already shimmery daytime look even further, by “smoking” out the eye with the deepest shade, either black or deep brown, blending it out,and adding more of the creamy, shimmery gold or silver over the deepest shade, for an easy transition from day to night. Both looks get mascara, and of course, a dose of black or brown eyeliner pencil top and bottom. TIP: if you have an eyeliner pencil that has dried out a bit, or even just a new one, “moisturize” it by gently rolling it in some cream shadow before you line your eyes. You will get a smoother application with less drag, and the benefit for the dual-toned shadow. For hoilday, Chase rolled the smoky eye liner kit pencil in a creamy gold or silver. The result? Perfectly lined eyes with a bit of sparkle.
There is no blush in this look, and the lips are nude with just a hint of gloss. The focus is, as Chase explained, on the strong, bold eye. You can spritz a bit of sparkle powder (lightly) at the temples. These Sparkle Powders arrive in pink or gold, in cute, retro atomizers and they make a lovely holiday gift.
