Pureology’s Precious Oil Packs a Great HairCare Punch (Especially the Versatile Caring Oil)

When a hair care line touts “10 uses in one bottle” they get my attention. That the case with Pureology’s Versatile Caring Oil from their Precious Oil Collection. The precious oil collection is really perfect for dry , brittle, color treated or otherwise damaged hair that needs TLC,  as it restores moisture, repairs damaged hair, and protects hair color from fading (thanks to Pureology’s “Oleo fade resistant complex”)  but it really is for any hair that needs a lot of TLC. The Oleo fade resistant complex helps to:  Equalize porosity; Restore manageability; Replenish the protective lipid layer; and Enhance colour vibrancy. All the products, including the Versatile Caring Oil, has 100% biodegradable ingredients and is a paraben and silicone-free, vegan formula, earning it the prestigious Green Seal™ certification.

But all natural products still have to do the job(s) they were designed for.   A slightly floral/herbal scent and super moisturization are what characterize Precious Oil products.  All contain  Sunflower oil, olive oil, coconut oil, and Jojoba oil.  All will help make even hard to handle hair sleek, soft and shiny.   Will it really, as claimed, make hair 10X smoother, shinier, even stronger? It is impossible for me as a reviewer to accurately quantify that, but I can say that it will make your hair look and feel better, and make it easier to style, which means less damage and breakage.  If you wear your hair air-dried or curly, it will also help keep the curls looking fine, not crazy and frizzy.

A major feature of these products is hair color retention.  As it has been described to me,  the natural state of hair is to be hydrophobic, which means it repels water.  However  when you color your hair it weakens the shaft and that hair becomes hydrophilic, attracting water and causing color to actually leak from the hair. Enter Precious Oil products, and their natural oils, combined with the exclusive to Pureology, oil-based OleoAntiFadeComplex. It deeply penetrates to  repair the hair fiber, insulate and fortify the cuticle and help support the protective coating that restores hair’s hydrophobicity to a healthy state.” In a few words, it helps protect your color.

The minute many people hear the word “oil” they automatically assume that means they’ll end up with a greasy oil slick on their heads. Not so with Precious Oil Shampoo (called ” Shamp’Oil”) that replenishes hair from the inside as well as the outside, and also there’s a Conditioner and an oil-infused Softening Masque, that dramatically made  my hair softer and smoother.  And, I didn’t have to re-shampoo the next day, either.  Impressive! The other products are heaven-sent for those who need deep conditioning.

The product I like the best, is the Versatile Caring Oil that purports to provide 10 different ways to pamper your hair. It comes in an amber pump bottle, and Pureology claims that it is the first 100% biodegradable product that is free of silicone and parabens for color treated hair.  It can be used as a pre-treatment prior to coloring,  to detangle, to combat frizz, to smooth and shine, to help repair hair (naturally) , to protect color, to help strengthen, and you can even, in a pinch, use it as a skin oil….and more!    I was dubious, but my hair really did look smooth, shiny, almost too good to be true. But don’t use too much–a little goes a long way and you don’t want to turn lovely locks, into limp ones. The 4.2 fl. oz. bottle will take you through the Fall and perhaps, a lot of the Winter too, depending upon how often you use it.
