An “Epicure” is a person of refined taste, especially when it comes to food and wine, and it also refers to someone who loves sensuous pleasure and luxurious living.
Epicuren is a unique high end skincare line that employs natural and luxurious ingredients. Epicuren’s first skincare product was a result of research of an enzyme technology unusually effective in treating the damaged skin of burn victims. Today’s Epicuren line is based on a Metadermabolic Enzyme protein complex that enriches cell metabolism, oxygenation and nutrition. Without getting too technical, this enzyme at the heart of the line, combined with a waterborne solution of B vitamins, creates an “intelligent” protein that encourages skin to self-rejuvenate. That’s pretty impressive.
The first element of Epicuren skincare involves preparing the skin for treatment by using cleansers, exfoliants and toners. Then, the skin is treated for its specific conditions/types with enzyme concentrates and gels. Third, the skin is sealed with a moisturizing serums or creams.
To get acquainted with the line, I tried the new ORAC Age Protect Serum ORAC. It arrives in a black box with metallic accents, and inside is a striking, black airless pump jar (srp. $150 1 oz ). The airless pump keeps out contaminents and also gives you just about the right dose. This type of delivery system is easy to use with one-handed push button operation, and it’s excellent. The serum itself is interesting. it is a lightweight but extremely emollient orange tinted cream with a slight, fresh scent. The name “ORAC” sounds space-aged and to be sure, it’s high tech. ORAC is Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity. Antioxidants with extremely high ORAC values, combined with hydrating Olive and Jojoba Oils, combat free radicals and deliver deep dehydration to the skin. Orac Age Protect Serum’s powerhouse of key ingredients include: Astaxanthin, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, Lycium Barbarum (Goji) Fruit Extract, Trehalose, and Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Fruit Extract. This product is touted as both a way to hydrate the skin, and protect it against damaging oxidative stress, while helping to reduce and prevent fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, it is supposed to calm inflammation and increase skin suppleness.
All of this sounds amazing, and it is. Other reviews I saw of this particular product were as extremely glowing as the price is high. From my perspective it’s a nice serum that will hydrate and plump up your skin, well worth it if you can afford the price. It can be used under makeup and appears to be good for all skin types, even sensitive skin like mine. But I am less certain as to whether or not the high ORAC values really amount to a new-style fountain of youth in a jar. Perhaps, over time, your skin will benefit with results you can really quantify. My skin immediately felt smoother and looked less dry (and that is a definite plus, especially now in the Winter). Anything that is very emollient and doesn’t make me break out is a definite plus. You only need to use it every other day, so that, plus the airless pump, should make your dollars stretch longer. The directions suggest you use a toner first, and a moisturizer afterwards (serums do not take the place of moisturizers or products with SPF, both of which you should use on a daily basis). A serum by itself can only show you so much, so I’m curious to find out how some of the other Epicuren products, perform.
Most of the products in the Epicuren line are expensive, but before you go all the way to a full collection of Epicuren skin care, try a sampler kit that works specifically for your type of skin. There are six different ones from normal to dry, acne prone, sensitive, oily, and calming. they range from around $98.00 to several hundred, depending upon type and size. There are products for the body, too. You might want to consult your dermatologist, anyway, as Epicuren products are only sold by Medical Doctors and Licensed Aestheticians in a certified Epicuren Discovery Retailer and/or Spa.
