Be the Belle of the Ball, with Guerlain’s Belle De Nuit Holiday 2011 Collection

Guerlain

Guerlain’s holiday color collection for 2011 is called “Belle de Nuit.” I believe the collection was is om part. an homage to Jacques Guerlain’s legendary 1993 perfume from Vol de Nuit. Vol de Nuit, FYI, was named for the second book written by his Jacques’ friend Antione de Saint-Exupery.

For holiday 2011, Guerlain’s Creative Director Oliver Echaudemaison was inspired to create a stunning, totally modern,  color collection, featuring dark tones and iridescent accents. The shiny, black, outer cartons for this luxurious collection feature a blue and black zebra motif on the inside. It is the same found on the original Vol de Nuit fragrance box design.

The collection includes two limited edition lipsticks ($35 each), a four-color eyeshadow palette ($59), a meteorite pearls du nuit ($56), a Vol du Nuit perfumed shimmer powder for face and body in a stunning glass atomizer ($87) and a truly cove-table Parure de Nuit pressed powder and blush ($67).

Guerlain's Parure De Nuit Pressed Powder & Blush has that priceless, "WOW!" factor

Although I didn’t try the rest of the collection, I did personally experience the Parure  De Nuit Pressed Powder &  Blush ($67.00).  This is not just a beautiful violet-scented skin enhancer, it is a mini work of art!  Like any super luxurious product, the packaging must be impressive. This pressed powder and blush comes in a shiny black, slightly rounded square that opens and closes with an elegant, expensive click. Inside the shimmery, pressed powder is embossed in the delicate shape of peacock feathers.  The powder base is a translucent sheer flesh-toned powder, topped with “feather” accents of soft white, deep pink, and teal. Used together with a big soft brush, this pressed powder evens out and illuminates the complexion. It won’t take the place of a foundation, but it will enhance the look over foundation or on bare skin. However, it multi-tasks to highlight and sculpt if you simply sweep a brush over the three “feathers” and apply to the cheek bones for a sculpted blush effect. The blush is natural, and layerable, and lovely, of course!

While not everyone likes scent in their color cosmetics, this particular product smells like candied violets, and reminds me of a more gracious and elegant era. Let it take you back there too,  if only for a moment. Undeniably, it has a definite, “wow” factor. It is as much a pleasure for the senses ad it is a treat for the face. The compact comes in a black velveteen bag lined in teal satin to make it even more impressive when you pull it out of your purse. Anything from Guerlain makes a beautiful gift but this one will be savored by someone very special;– perhaps you?
