Algae that Makes Skin Beautiful and Youthful– Products & Holiday Gifts, from Algenist @Algenist_SF #skincare

Sometimess when y0u are searching for something, you find something else.  That seems to be one of the lucky surprises that the biotechnologists at Algenist, experienced. They were focusing on creating an eco-friendly bio-fuel from algae, and discovered that Alguronic Acid has amazing, anti-aging ingredients.

Without getting too technical, alguronic acid is a polysaccharide compound that is in the same family as hylauronic acid, but with more anti-aging benefits for skin. It has the power to increase cell regeneration  (*up to 55% according to Algenist’s press information).  But it also helps reduce UV cell damage, and protects skin from additional UV damage.

Each of the products in the Algenist line contain alguronic acid, along with other targeted actives. According to the folks at Algenist, the combination of alguronic acid and the other incredients in Algenist delivers visible anti-aging results in as little as 10 days.  And Algenist products are suitable for all skin types, Dermatologist tested, non-comedogenic,  hypoallergenic and not tested on animals. The products also do not contain:  Parabens , Sulfates , Synthetic dyes , Phthalates , GMOs  or Triclosan.  (Read my  January 2012 initial review of Algenist).

Algenist has a nice line of targeted skincare products, with the cornerstone product being a Concentrated Reconstructing Anti-Aging Serum  ($95.00 1 fl. oz).  Most of the collection centers around anti-wrinkle and firming products, plus a cleanser,

But now, there’s a nifty Triple-Action Micropolish & Peel ($75.00 2 fl. oz.) that is gentle enough for even those with sensitive skin.  It uses a  10% acid duo (alguronic acrid and a glycolic acid combo),  along with a 10% mixture of pumpkin & pomegranate fruit enzymes, and micro-polishing crystals, These offer you smoother, softer, more radiant skin, instantly.  The smooth micro-polishing crystals mechanically lift off larger skin-dulling cells and buff rough skin to reveal a new radiant skin surface. The acid duo and fruit enzyme complex work deep into the epidermis to lift away dull skin cells and to reveal skin that appears regenerated, smoother and more even.

At the launch event, editors got to try the new product on their hands. Mine hand definitely looked brighter and felt much smoother and softer. But as someone with sensitive skin, I tend to shy away from microdermabrasion entirely, and the only pumpkin enzyme peel I ever used left my skin red and irritation after literally, a handful of seconds. So putting this on my face was another matter entirely.  But I was assured that this Algenist microdermabrasion would be gentle and safe, especially since the micro-polishing crystals are smooth, so they can’t scratch your skin to shreds.

I decided to test this out on my face, using a cautiously small amount  (less is more when you are trying something new and don’t know how your skin will react to it).  I only kept the product on my skin for a little under 3 minutes because I know my skin is very sensitive, and this has both a physical and chemical exfoliation.  When I washed it off, my skin did look red, but it also felt smoother and softer.  Within a minute, the redness went away and I saw brighter skin.  I was impressed. While those with sensitive skin might use this just once a week, the average person could and will use it more often.

Application is easy.  Simply apply an even layer to clean, moist skin ( avoiding the eyes).  Massage the active the micro-crystals gently onto the skin using a circular motion. When time is up in 3-5 minutes, remove the produce with warm water or a wet face cloth.    TIP:  Since the product has an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) in it, and you are introducing fresh skin to the sun’s damaging rays after you’ve used the product, your skin is going to be more sensitive to the sun’s rays for up to a week after use.  To avoid sunburn and sun damage, be sure to use a sunscreen after you’ve treated your skin to Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish & Peel.  You know you shouldn’t go out without sun block every single day, anyway!
