Products that Whiten and Keep Your Teeth Looking Younger By Rembrandt

Most people associate the name "Rembrandt" with a famous, Dutch painter. I also associate it with a Mynah Bird that used to live in an art gallery (the "Art Fair" -- anyone remember it?) in the East Village. Rembrandt (the bird, not the artist) was trained to screech just one phrase (at about 30-second intervals): ""Hello! RemBrandt! Don't forget to turn out the lights!"

But Rembrandt is also a line of excellent tooth-care and whitening products -- eight in the Rembrandt Whitening Collection. All of these products are designed to help you get whiter teeth and then maintain the brilliance. They contain the same enamel-safe ingredients that dentists use, but all of these are for at-home use, and amazingly affordable.

The Advice Sisters What Works column has included a couple of reviews of Rembrandt products, including one I really liked (a Rembrandt Whitening Touch-up Pen) in our October 2007 column. One I've just discovered that I also find quite impressive is the Rembrandt Plus Peroxide Whitening Mouthwash $7.99 16 fl. oz. that whitens but also contains fluoride for enamel restoration. It's formulated with "bio-available" peroxide that goes to work immediately to help whiten your teeth. But this multi-tasking liquid also is infused with a minty blend to give you fresh breath. it has sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) to help gently and effectively clean your teeth and mouth. All of this is good and well. It has a pleasant taste, and it's slightly foamy in your mouth so you know it's working. But the product is supposed to visibly whiten your teeth and even help strengthen enamel if used twice daily for twelve weeks. I can't tell you that it does, or doesn't, because I can't commit to any product I review for that long. The thing is, I really like the idea! I don't use mouthwash twice a day (although I guess I should), but if you do, why not get one that does good things and might potentially help to make your teeth actually look better, too? It's definitely worth a try.

If you're looking for more immediate results, there is a Rembrandt 2-hour Whitening Kit $24.99 that will give you whiter teeth in just two hours. You simply apply the whitening gel to the upper and lower ComfTray applicators, wear for 20 minutes, remove for 10 minutes, and repeat for four applications for a total time of two hours. For me personally, this is just too much fussing, and a loathe the gel-filled tray method of teeth whitening. But it's worth the cost and the effort if you want a DIY whitening kit that works. When you've been spending a fortune at the dentist for whither teeth, this Rembrandt kit will help you economize, without compromising.

For those like me who prefer paper strips, Rembrandt Whitening Strips $14.99 is a once-a-day treatment that whitens teeth more or less in just five days. These use more comfortable papery strips on those uppers and lowers, and you can still talk and use treat together.

And to keep your smile, bright, Rembrandt has four different toothpastes. I like the Rembrandt Plus Fresh Mint Toothpaste $7.99 3 fl. oz. that has bio-available peroxide to start whitening on contact, and it has a nice minty taste, too. Rembrandt Intense Stain Toothpaste $7.99 3 fl. oz. is also excellent. The toothpaste contains fluoride and stain-fighting ingredients that remove, at least in part, some of the evidence of my coffee and red wine indulgences. You're going to brush your teeth anyway (I would hope so!). Why not get a good toothpaste that multi-tasks?
